10/3/2009--Blue Lake Trail, North Cascades National Park, WA..Larch trees, turning light green and yellow, near Blue Lake in the North Cascades National Park...Blue Lake is about four miles round trip, elevation gain 1,000 feet. Located off Route 20, the Northern Cascades highway in Washington State, the trail ends at the stunning Blue Lake surrounded by larch trees. The Sub-alpine Larch is very rare deciduous conifer that only grows in isolated locations in the Rockies, and in one specific section of the Cascade Mountains, in Washington State. It's known for its beauty in the fall because it goes from green to a brilliant golden, before shedding its needles for the winter...©2009 Stuart Isett. All rights reserved.
