6/29/2010--Seattle, WA, USA...Dr. Howard Jeffries, the Medical Director of CPI at Seattle Children's uses s a white board at the entrance of the Cardiac Intensive Care Unit that shows a map of the rooms with patient names and gives a quick status of how full the unit is and how sick the patients are. Stick-on stars indicate a patient on a ventilator, while an orange circle shows a patient who needs to be in isolation...The board is one example of continuous process improvement (CPI), a practice which has touched just about every department of Seattle Children's Hospital. Using the new system, the Seattle Children's has saved $200 million in building costs by using the facilities they have more efficiently...©2010 Stuart Isett. All rights reserved.
