3/21/2008--Chewelah, WA, USA..Spokane County Deputy Prosecutor Clint Francis explaining how the cars collided in the 2005 accident that killed 5 children from the Schrock family. ..Jeffrey Schrock, 39, a devout Mennonite from Chewelah, Washington State, lost five of his children in an accident when a truck driven by Clifford Helm crossed a grassy median and drove into the oncoming lanes of U.S. 395 on Nov. 1, 2005. .Killed in the accident from the Schrock family were Carmen, 12; Jana, 10; Carrina, 8; Jerrill, 5; and Craig, 2. Jeffrey Schrock was hospitalized for 6 weeks in serious condition, suffering from numerous broken bones and other injuries. Shortly after the accident Schrock's wife, Carolyn, a conservative Mennonite, went to Helm's hospital room and offered forgiveness although the State continued to press charges against Helm. ..A Spokane County jury acquitted Helm, from Deer Park, Wash., on March 14, 2008, finding him not guilty of five counts of first-degree vehicular homicide in the collision and one count of vehicular assault...©2008 Stuart Isett.
