9/9/2007--Birch Bay, WA, USA..The Semiahmoo Resort and Spa. At one time Birch Bay was a hidden gem. Ten miles south of the Canadian border on a crescent-shaped inlet filled with some of the warmest water on the Pacific Coast, it was known only by rural locals and Canadians. Now discovered by newcomers from all over the West, its oceanfront double-wides are being torn down to make way for 3,500-square-foot McMansions and luxury condominiums. But in spite of its recent development, Birch Bay is still swathed in lush pine and mixed-conifer forests and sweeping marine vistas that even average people can afford....©2007 Stuart Isett.
