Trounce Alley is a discrete passage connecting two main thoroughfares in downtown Victoria, British Columbia. It has a long history as a commercial strip, albeit a tiny one. It goes back to the mid-1800s when developer and architect Thomas Trounce designed the lane to provide easy access to stores he owned. With fluctuations in the economy, businesses have come and gone over time, but today, still lined with 125-year-old gaslights, the corridor is a diverse micro hub where old-world businesses coexist alongside hip new shops and restaurants, none of which disrupt the pathway’s quaint charm.
