12/12/2008--Seattle, WA, USA..Cups and cows that belonged to Edith Macefield (born in 1921 in Oregon. Died June 15, 2008 Seattle, Washington) in the kitchen table of her small home in Seattle, WASH . Macefield achieved worldwide fame in 2006 when she refused US$1 million offered to her by developers to sell her home (shown here) to make way for a commercial development in the Ballard neighborhood of Seattle. Instead, the five-story project was built around her 108-year-old farmhouse, where she passed away at age 86...Barry Martin, senior superintendent for Ledcor Construction, who are building the project around the house, befriended Macefield and in her last year visited regularly to cook meals and shop. With no surviving family, Macefield willed the house to Martin when she died on June 15th, 2008. Martin has not touch anything in the house, leaving everything exactly as it was the day Macefield died...©2008 Stuart Isett. All rights reserved.
