10/14/2008--Seattle, WA, USA..The Olympic Sculpture Park in Seattle overlooking Elliot Bay and the Olympic Mountains. The Seattle Art Museum recently opened the Olympic Sculpture Park (2901 Western Avenue, 206-654-3100; www.seattleartmuseum.org) on a 9-acre former industrial site on the north end of downtown..Joggers and dog walkers frequent the gravel pathways between installations of steel, wood and stone that overlook Elliott Bay, where cruise ships departing for Alaska share the waters with commuter ferries, pleasure boaters and container ships from the Port of Seattle. ..The row of deck chairs below Alexander Calder?s spider-like 'Eagle' sculpture (seen here) is a great place to sit and watch the day wind down. When it?s clear you can see the saw-toothed Olympic Mountains to the west. The park, which closes at dusk, links into other waterfront trails heading north towards Shilshole Bay...©2008 Stuart Isett.
