Seattle city council member Kshama Sawant speaking at City Hall. Seattle is debating whether or not to raise the city’s minimum wage to $15. The recently elected council member, Sawant is a member of the Socialist Alternative Party. She has moved from her role as an activist in the fight for higher wages to working for a citywide $15 minimum wage inside City Hall Seattle.
Here Sawant points to a Seattle Times article on the effects of the minimum wage increase in San Fransisco a decade ago and how it had no impact on jobs.
